Vinegar Steam: An Effortless Method To Clean Your Oven

by Baiba Grinberga - September 12, 2022

Cleaning an oven is a laborious chore that requires a lot of time, effort, and harsh chemicals. So, it’s no surprise there are few tasks homeowners dread more than cleaning the oven! At some point, you have to do it, whether you like it or not.

However, cleaning your appliance doesn’t have to be so hard! To save yourself all the trouble, check out this guide for a complete, chemical-free method of cleaning your oven.

A guide to steam-clean your oven with vinegar

This method is a simple alternative to chemical-based cleaners! Vinegar is acidic and can loosen superficial stains without scrubbing—plus, it’s a more natural cleaner than other products.

For this task, you don’t need a steam cleaner or self-cleaning feature in your oven. Just follow these easy steps:

Step #1. Make preparations

You’ll need a casserole dish, water, white vinegar, and a sponge or cloth. Once you’ve gathered everything, take out the oven racks and wash them with soap and water. Then, replace one of the racks in the middle of the oven.

To make the vinegar steam, fill the casserole dish with water and add a cup of vinegar. Place the dish in the remaining rack and close the oven door.

Step #2. Let the vinegar do its job

Turn on the oven and set it to 230 degrees Celsius. Then, let it rest for twenty minutes to an hour, depending on how greasy the oven is.

The oven will heat the vinegar solution and start making steam, which will work to loosen up the grime. All you have to do now is wait!

Step #3. Finishing touches

When the time’s up, turn off the oven and carefully take out the dish— it’ll be hot, so wear oven mitts!

Allow the oven to cool so you won’t get burned while cleaning. Then, dampen your sponge or cloth and wipe the dirt off the oven. Now you’ve removed the superficial grime and stains in your oven!

The only problem with the vinegar steam method is that it doesn’t work on baked-on grime, so you will still need to scrub that off.

However, vinegar alone may not be enough if the grease is really stuck. Don’t worry! It’s not impossible to clean even the most stubborn stains; you can use vinegar and baking soda for that.
